Topical or local anesthetic Dentistry
Some people are super sensitive to having their teeth cleaned. Sometimes it is tissue sensitivity and sometimes it is their actual teeth. Whatever the problem is, we can help.
At Serene Dental Hygiene, we truly want everyone to be comfortable and relaxed in the dental chair. How can that happen if you are gripping the chair because you are in pain?
There are different reasons for dental pain. If your teeth hurt, it is most likely because there is either decay or infection present or you may have receding gums which leaves your root surface exposed to the oral cavity and it isn’t meant to be.
If you have decay, we often just avoid this tooth until the decayed tooth is taken care of. This means a trip to your dentist which we can advise you on what is needed and provide you with a referral.
If there is infection present, we will show this to you on radiographs taken and be sure you fully understand what the problem is and what will be necessary to take care of it. Again, if it is in need of dental attention, we may need to avoid this area until it is taken care of. Sometimes, infections can be related to the gum tissue due to food impaction or periodontal disease. We can help with this and will discuss your options. If it is recession, we will explain reasons this has occurred and discuss what your can do to prevent further damage. Some people need anesthetic options to have their teeth cleaned when they have recession.
At Serene Dental Hygiene, we offer different types of anesthesia.
We have topical gels and rinses we can use that often do the trick and only last 20-60 minutes. If you need more profound anesthesia, we can give injections which promise you total anesthesia and a pain free experience. You can expect this anesthesia to last 3-8 hours depending on your bodies metabolism.
We promise to listen to your concerns and fears and to do what it takes to help you to be able to tolerate your dental cleaning and leave you feeling well taken care of.
